It surely didn’t come as a surprise that Sunderland FC got rid of their hot headed Italian coach, Palio Di Canio.

The team, that is currently last on the Premier League Log, finally let go of their coach after a dismal 3-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion.

The new man in charge, however, is Uruguayan manager, Gus Poyet. Poyet has just signed a two-year contract with the club, and hopefully now, Sunderland can move up in the ranks. Even if it’s just a little.

Poyet, who is a former international midfielder himself, was previously with Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion. But, he too was sacked back in June, for an undisclosed reason. Although it is reported it was a breach in club discipline.

Before Poyet relayed his focus onto management, he was also a midfielder for Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

The 45-year old was long since rumoured to be a favourite for the new manager position. On the Sunderland Football Club official website, chairman of the club, Ellis Short posted the following:

“We analysed a wide range of candidates and believe that Gus’s track record, experience, commitment and passion make him the right man to take us forward,”

Sunderland seems positive that Poyet will have a great impact on their club and maybe even help them to get out of the dumps. But, as we have seen many a time, it takes a while for a new manager to really make his new team work.

Let’s see what happens…
